About
Littering is a big problem in our society. Many people do not know that they are harming the environment and the life living in it. A lot of people leave trash and litter in the place they live in without knowing that they are also affecting themselves. This problem is mainly affecting the wildlife that lives in the places that are being affected by littering and is also affecting us, humans. We are harming the environment that we live in. Littering mostly happens in big cities, for example, Yokohama, New York, Los Angeles, Beijing, etc. The waste we make averages 0.74 kilograms but ranges widely, from 0.11 to 4.54 kilograms, as stated by The World Bank (The World Bank, 2022). The waste is then transported by ship, train, or truck and is finally dumped into a landfill. Not all countries have landfills, but the ones that do, are affecting the wildlife and us humans.
In 2018, about 146.1 million tons of waste were landfilled, and food was the largest component of the waste, as stated by the EPA(US EPA, 2022). If we recycle more, less waste will go into the landfills, we will be able to preserve essential materials by taking them out of the used products, we will be able to reduce pollution, and we can also convert the waste into energy.
To solve this problem, I will make an entertaining video game that spreads awareness of littering and recycling. I will accomplish this by using a game engine called Unity which is a well known game engine software for many people. The main point of the game is to pick up that trash that is laying on the ground and avoid approaching oncoming vehicles that will hit you if you are not careful. There will be a timer set for 60 seconds and you will collect as much trash as you can in that period of time. This game will not only spread awareness of littering and recycling, but also keep the audience engaged to the game because of the game mechanics.
